In this modern time, education is among the best sectors giving high priority in major countries that have competent and conscience management, with good and quality education, "Science & Technology" that are among the parameters in rating country's quality after GDP will be promoted, national economic status will increase as many foreign students will subscribe to your schools. This is among the advantage of investing more in education. With good research centers in a university, many students will seek to attend for their thesis and projects, which generate a lot of income.
Nigeria as a giant of Africa is lagging behind in many aspect, education included, the quality education of her neighboring countries are far better than her own, Ghana and South Africa are not mate with Nigeria in this aspect, no any Nigerian university makes a top 10 in Africa ! Why ? Because others invest more in their institutions, this is one of the reason why many Nigerians are hungry to apply for postgraduate abroad after their undergraduate level.
What *ASUU* is battling for is to make Nigerian education sector better and conducive for everyone. Since 2009 Nigerian Govt have been signing several MoU with them but unfortunately the Govt not honouring the agreement.
It is very obvious that Nigerian universities laboratories and research centers need to be revitalized as ASUU have been demanding. It is very unfortunate and disappointing for Nigeria to have university professors with less than N500k monthly salary while some rapacious and incompetent elements occupying the National Assembly chamber are collecting allowance for even News paper with their furniture been annually updated using public treasury !
A single politician in Nigeria can embezzles a sum of money that can solve this ASUU issue.
Strike is now an annual festival of Nigerian public universities due to poor funding and salary hold, despite the huge amount of salary taken by senators and ministers that have no impact on the lives of the masses, and this is happening in a govt that have Professor as a Vice President, Professors occupying the seat of ministers and many more.
The system ruling Nigeria favours only elite with massive abandonment of the masses, thus, there is need for overhauling.
With this constant strike and poor management of the Govt, future of many youth is in danger, while their children are schooling abroad with their offer pending. What Nigerian barmy and greedy leaders forgot is those youth whose future is in your hand tampering with it will never allow your children to live in peace, with time the equation must change as everything has a limit !
Meanwhile, no any sector in Nigeria is going properly with excessive insecurity escalating every moment, looting public treasury by several stakeholders everywhere.
Govt is shouting no money to fund education and other sectors but their useless salary and allowances are intact, they have money from our treasury to manage their lives and build mansions but don't have money to kill the boredom of the masses that voted for them.
Now, ASUU is screaming, tomorrow is another sector !
Where are we going ?
Nigerians need to wake up from this deep slumber !
