On the 5th of Shawwal, in the 60th year of Hijra, Muslim ibn Aqeel, the trusted emissary of Imam Hussain (AS), arrived in the city of Kufa. He had been sent by Imam Hussain (AS) to gauge the level of support for his cause, as he had heard that the people of Kufa were ready to rise up against the tyrannical regime of Yazid.
Muslim ibn Aqeel was greeted by many enthusiastic supporters, who pledged their allegiance to him and Imam Hussain (AS). It was clear that the people of Kufa were eager for change and were willing to fight against the injustices of the ruling authorities.
However, the fortunes of Muslim ibn Aqeel quickly turned. The governor of Kufa, Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad, soon realized that the people of Kufa were rallying behind Muslim ibn Aqeel and Imam Hussain (AS). He quickly began a campaign of intimidation and fear, arresting many of the supporters of Imam Hussain (AS) and spreading rumors that Imam Hussain (AS) was not coming to Kufa.
Muslim ibn Aqeel found himself increasingly isolated, with his supporters either arrested or too frightened to show their support openly. Eventually, he was betrayed by the very people who had welcomed him to Kufa, and was captured by the governor's forces.
Muslim ibn Aqeel was eventually executed by the governor, but his bravery and sacrifice inspired many others to join Imam Hussain (AS) in his fight against tyranny and oppression. His entrance into Kufa may have been met with enthusiasm and hope, but it ultimately led to his tragic death and the beginning of one of the darkest periods in Islamic history.
Muslim bin Aqeel was the cousin of Imam Hussain (AS), who was sent by him to Kufa to ascertain the situation and see if it was safe for him to visit. Muslim bin Aqeel's arrival in Kufa was greeted with enthusiasm and thousands of people came out to welcome him, believing that Imam Hussain (AS) would soon be coming.
The people of Kufa had grown weary of the tyrannical rule of the Umayyad Caliphate and saw Hussain (AS) as a savior who would bring justice and end their suffering. Muslim bin Aqeel addressed the people and urged them to support the Imam and stand up against the tyranny of Yazid ibn Muawiya.
However, things quickly turned against Muslim bin Aqeel. The governor of Kufa, Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad, was informed of his arrival and he began to crack down on him and his supporters. Muslim bin Aqeel was forced to flee from house to house, seeking refuge and support. However, in the end, he was betrayed by a close companion and handed over to Ibn Ziyad.
Muslim bin Aqeel was brutally tortured and finally martyred in the most inhumane manner. His death was a great loss to the cause of Imam Hussain (AS) and a turning point in the events that led to the tragedy of Karbala.
